Halo: The Master Chief Collection Adds a Remastered Warlock to the Roster

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is just about a month away. Earlier today, Microsoft officially announced that fan-favorite Warlock will be the sixth and final remastered map in Halo 2‘s Multiplayer.

Now called “Warlord,” this sixth Multiplayer map will join the ranks alongside Ascension (Zenith), Coagulation (Bloodline), Zanzibar (Stonetown), Sanctuary (Shrine) and Lockout (Lockdown).

Fans of Halo: Combat Evolved will be pleasantly surprised by this addition due to the map’s history. In the original title, players once knew it as Wizard. Then in Halo 2, the map was remade as Warlock. As a third iteration, Warlock was then remade as Magus in Halo: Reach.

Despite this constant remaking of the same map over four titles, Max Hoberman, President of Certain Affinity and Multiplayer Lead Designer of Halo 2, doesn’t seem too worried. “Warlock was my pet project due to fond memories of internal Bungie playtests where we had intense, epic shotgun CTF matches,” he stated. “There’s really nothing else quite like this map in the Halo sandbox – a small arena 4-way symmetric base map – and we felt that it would be a great complement to the other re-imagined maps.”

Like the other remastered multiplayer maps, Warlord will feature some new design tweaks and environmental interactions. In fact, Hoberman also stated that, “Warlord will be familiar to fans, but there are also some fun tweaks that I think players will appreciate, including additional cover, new skill jumps, and a new weapon in the center.”

For those of you who are new to the Halo series, Warlord will be a treat. Set amid the ruins of an ancient Forerunner dungeon on Delta Halo, this Multiplayer map is perfect for close-quarter firefights and game types such as Oddball, Team Doubles, and CTF.

And for those fans who are worried where their original Warlock will go, don’t worry. In addition to the six remastered Halo 2 maps, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is going to include all the original Halo 2 maps as well as PC exclusive maps. In fact, you’re also getting all of the original Halo: Combat Evolved maps and PC exclusive maps, and all of the vanilla Halo 3 and Halo 4 maps, PLUS all their DLC maps. That’s over 100 maps in the multiplayer matchmaking!

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is out November 11th on Xbox One. Other than experiencing the Master Chief’s journey from Halo: Combat Evolved to Halo 4, the collection also includes Halo 4’s Spartan Ops, access to Halo: Nightfall, and exclusive beta access to the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer thest, which will run from December 29th, 2014 to January 18th, 2015.
