Halo 5’s Hammer Storm Update Out Now, Next Four Months of Content Teased

It’s that time of the month again…Halo 5: Guardians’ free monthly update, Hammer Storm, is out today.

Let’s cut to the chase. Sitting at around a 4.5GB file, February’s content update is bringing a host of new game modes and a new map to the game’s Multiplayer Arena. Alongside these goodies are your traditional slew of REQ items which range from vibrant new weapon skins and visors to deadly assassinations and stances. Oh, and there’s also the return of the classic Halo: CE Magnum and everyone’s favorite two-handed tool of destruction, the Gravity Hammer.

Take a look below for a quick rundown of the new game modes and map you’ll be getting with Hammer Storm.

  • Grifball, Assault, & Fiesta
    • From the hammer-meets-sword sports sensation of Grifball, and weapon-roulette hilarity of Fiesta, to the fan-favorite Assault game type that’s been fully evolved for Halo 5: Guardians, Hammer Storm brings a brand new game mode to fit every flavor of Halo fan.
  • Torque
    • An entirely new environment primed for battle, Torque is a large symmetrical map that caters to Capture the Flag and Assault game modes. The pistons in each courtyard can provide key gameplay for cover, traversal, and objective movement.
  • New possibilities with Forge
    • The new “ball” mechanic that powers the Assault and Grifball modes unlocks the potential for entirely new game types in Forge mode, not to mention paving the way for returning favorites like Oddball and Ricochet.

And if that’s not enough to keep you satisfied for a good while, developer 343 Industries has teased the next four months worth of content…with a special something coming in June.

“But as a famous Spartan once said, ‘I think we’re just getting started.’ We aren’t done, not by a long shot,” Community Manager Bravo noted earlier today. “Among the vast array of new modes coming to Halo over the next several months is one that our fans have repeatedly asked us to deliver – Firefight.”

That’s right. The adrenaline-pumping PvE mode from Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach is coming back. This time, though, it’s going to be a battle of two teams pitted against enemy AI. Pure chaos.

Halo 5 Content Roadmap

“The new mode, called “Warzone Firefight”, will bring PvE to Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer and let players battle together against common foes (and truly show off their custom Spartans to boot!) That’s all we’ll say for now, but trust us, we can’t wait to tell you more about Warzone Firefight in the coming months.”

343 Industries is doing wonders with the Multiplayer support for Halo 5: Guardians. Since it’s release back in October of last year, the game has received 11 new maps, 12 new modes, and over 180 brand new REQ items…all of which has been free.
