Halo 5: Guardians’ Opening Cinematic Plunges Fireteam Osiris Into Battle

Fireteam Osiris, the ONI-led squad of Spartan-IV super soldiers, are coming in hot, shooting Covenant forces dead while doing so in incredibly stylistic fashion.

Late last night, 343 Industries released the opening cinematic for Halo 5: Guardians. Huddled up quietly onboard what appears to be your standard Pelican dropship, Spartan Locke and his band of soldiers are debriefed on their mission: Infiltrate enemy lines and recover Dr. Halsey, director of the Spartan-II Program whom may just have a solution to stop the Forerunner threat plaguing the galaxy.

Despite the concern that the Master Chief and Blue Team were nowhere to be found, the cinematic does a fine job of allowing the new age of Spartans to take the center stage. Leading the group is former ONI Agent, Spartan Locke. If you had the chance to catch Halo: Nightfall last year, you’re sure to know enough about his character already. Under his command is Spartan Olympia Vale, a rookie solider and skilled linguist, Spartan Holly Tanaka, former UNSC solider turned Spartan, and every ODST fan’s favorite character, Spartan Edward Buck.

Halo 5 Locke Team

Given the fast-paced action in the opening cinematic, we can only hope that the entire campaign feels just as smooth, chaotic (in a good way of course) and tactical between the new squad-based gameplay mechanics and vast array of Spartan Abilities; some of which were shown in full force as Lock and his team ground pound, charge, and thrust their way through battle.

Halo 5: Guardians is out exclusively for Xbox One on October 27th.
