Grand Theft Auto V Release Date Pushed To September

If you were looking forward to playing Grand Theft Auto V this Spring, I’ve got bad news for you. Rockstar announced today that the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series won’t be hitting the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 until September 17th, 2013. That’s four months later than originally announced.

They’ve apologized for the delay, saying the game “needs more polish,” but didn’t say exactly what that entails or if it applies to specific parts of the game.

Details on Grand Theft Auto V are still relatively scarce, but we have received a couple of awesome trailers and a few details: the story will take place in San Andreas, the fictional California first introduced in 2004’s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Specifically, it will be in the city of Los Santos, a combination of Los Angeles, Hollywood and other parts of southern California. The story will revolve around three main characters: Michael, a retired bank robber with a dysfunctional family, Trevor, Michael’s former partner who suffers from psychopathic behavior connected to a drug addiction, and Franklin, a repo man drawn into crime. The title’s apparently been under development since late 2009.

Chances are whenever the game comes out it’ll be a financial success for Rockstar, if the rest of the series is any indication.
