A lot of people are looking forward to Grand Theft Auto V. Those people will also need to look forward to a very sizable installation.
As expected, Rockstar’s upcoming open-world title will be gigantic. But I don’t think many were expecting a required 8 GB install before even playing the game. This information comes from a recent Q&A done on the Rockstar website.
While both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will require the install, the Xbox 360 version will ship with two discs. The Q&A details the installation process for 360 owners:
Disc 1 will be used for a one-time mandatory install and Disc 2 will be used to play the game. After the install, players will be able to enjoy both Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online without any need to switch discs.
The 8 GB install is the price Xbox owners will pay to avoid disc swapping. The installation will also, presumably, help make the gigantic world transition seamlessly, avoiding constant reading from the disc.
The Q&A also squashes any concerns about another delay as Rockstar is firmly committed to releasing Grand Theft Auto V September 17th for Xbox 360 and PS3.
