Gran Turismo meets GT Academy meets Speed Network in March

I can assure you that Survivor was never like this: however, reports indicate this week that a Gran Turismo-themed competition for potential race car drivers is underway, comprised of participants who also happen to have entered the competition as among the best players of Gran Turismo 5 if you can believe that.

Yet the big part about the competition is not the competitive source of inspiration, but the televised presentation of the competition on Speed Netowrk once the  finals start in March 2011 thanks to a publicity deal with Sony and Polyphonic Digital. According to the Gamasutra post, Nissan is also providing sponsorship as the exclusive vehicle provider for the competition. In the digital portion, select Nissan vehicles will be up for use, with “free digital content” thrown into the mix as the competition progresses.

Once the field narrows to a final group of 32 participants in the televised segment is when the competition will really get hot. From there it’s down to the sweet 16, where actual Nissan cars get dumped into the mix, with the final winner getting a chance to enter the GT Academy and train along with real professional race car drivers.
