Gotham fans rejoice because FOX has green-lit a third season of the show following some impressive numbers. The show that people originally thought of as only a Batman origin story has turned out to be much more complicated.
David Madden, president of entertainment at FOX announced the renewal yesterday.
“It takes a very special team to tell the tales of ‘Gotham.’ For the past two seasons, Bruno, Danny and John have masterfully honored the mythology of GOTHAM and brought it to life with depth, emotion and memorable high drama,” said Madden. “This incredibly talented cast has redefined these iconic characters for a new generation, and we couldn’t be more proud of this show.”
So far, Gotham has been doing a stellar job when it comes to how audiences react to the show. Right now, the show grosses around nine million viewers across multiple platform. Gotham has a total aggregated score of 90% from critics and 81% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes– not bad for a Batman show that doesn’t include Batman.
What makes Gotham so interesting to watch is the unknown quality surrounding important characters. We know James Gordon will one day become an important figure in the GCPD, but what sort of dark and twisted paths must he take to get there? Gotham explores events told before Bruce Wayne dons the Bat cowl, leaving much of what happens as a shock to the audience.
Gotham on FOX is entirely based on DC Comics’ characters, with actors and actresses such as Ben McKenzie, Robin Lord Taylor, Camren Bicondova, David Mazouz playing key roles on the show, and airs next on Monday 21st at 8/7c on FOX.
