Game Capture HD II Announced

AverMedia announced today a brand new iteration of the highly popular Game Capture HD. This new model conveniently named ‘Game Capture HD IIaims to improve upon what the original Game Capture HD offered, and provide a much smoother experience to those unfamiliar with capturing video game footage. The Game Capture HD II while completely based off the original model released in 2012 has some significant improvements over its predecessor.

The biggest advantage over the original Game Capture HD is 3.5mm microphone jack for recording commentary, the ability to offer passive HDMI, which means you can now record gameplay videos at 1080p @ 60fps if the device is not HDCP protected. AverMedia upgraded the original operating system of the device to now offer video editing, and they’ve added Wi-Fi/Ethernet connections meaning there is no real need to now have a PC to upload gameplay footage. Which is a very nice touch.

I reviewed the original Game Capture HD and was pleasantly surprised by the abilities of that little box. It had it’s issues but it did get the job done, and with the software updates AverMedia released those issues were almost eliminated…almost. I can’t lie, the announcement of this new iteration of the box sitting ontop of my Playstation3 (PS3) has me eager to see just how much of an improvement it is over the original or is it all hype?
