The long-awaited Kickstarter project Friday the 13th: The Game gets a release date, and no it’s not Friday the 13th. A new trailer revealed the game will release on May 26, 2017
Friday the 13th: The Game is an asymmetrical multiplayer battle arena. Seven camp counselors have to survive against a player controlled Jason Voorhees. The game is being co-developed by Gun Media and Illfonic. Gun Media has worked on Breach & Clear and Speakeasy. Illfonic is perhaps most well-known for being the original studio behind the Star Marine module of Star Citizen.
Friday the 13th: The Game feels like it’s been in development forever, even though it’s only been a year and a half since the Kickstarter campaign first launched. The game was originally scheduled for release in 2016 but was delayed to allow the inclusion of a single-player campaign. The single-player campaign will not be available at launch. Instead, it will be added as a free update this summer.
Upon release, there will be three multiplayer maps available as well as a variety of unlockable Jason Voorhees costumes, spanning different film eras. The maps available at launch include Camp Crystal Lake, Higgins Haven, and Packanack Lodge.
The game will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
