E3 2018 is slowly creeping around the corner. So, let’s be real here. Fortnite has been taking flight since the start of the year, and it’s continuing to fly with more announcements. There is definitely going to be huge battle royale hype going on, and you don’t want to miss it!
Fortnite & eSports
There’s no doubt that eSports has been more prominent in the gaming world over the past few years. With open tournaments regularly available for FPS and fighting games, Epic Games recently announced a $100 million funding for future events. What does this mean for other games in the battle royale genre and eSports? Since the success of Fortnite with its fast-paced building and frequent updates, this would most likely push for more polished BR modes from current and future developers to be able to replicate the success.
In addition, when you have PUBG throwing in a $2 million pot for their invitational, this can open up more sponsor opportunities and funding. Furthermore, hardcore gamers outside of professional players can jump in on the money, too. Do you think you have what it takes? Now is the time to sign up!
A New Mode?
With the release of the free-to-play BR mode last year in September, can we expect a new mode? There is no doubt that Epic Games have been pretty good about patch updates and in-game events. Maybe pushing out a first-person mode would test the waters of the developers’ capabilities. There’s always room for experiments and this would be interesting to see. Players could either love or hate this idea. But if Epic Games can somehow do this right with already thrilling building action, it would be an awesome idea.
Other than that, it would be nice to see them go all in on their limited-time events. For example, how Overwatch would decorate their maps if it was a Christmas event. It would give the players a more immersive feel dressed up in exclusive skins from previous events. Overall, all their past events received positive feedback. Whatever they decide to throw at us in this category will most likely keep us on our toes.
Skins, Other Cosmetics & New Map?
Next, let’s hope to see more skins and a new map. Fortnite definitely lacks in the map department that’s for sure. It would be great to see a bigger map and away from the usual desert map announcement. Maybe a snow or jungle map? There’s a lot of room for creativity in this area. Due to the nature of the game the environment plays such a role in the outcome of the game that a new map could really shake things up. Imagine a winter map where you can build structures but the snow and ice makes climbing on them slippery adding an extra skill to the mix.
Lastly, they haven’t disappointed us in everything and anything in the skins and cosmetics category. Fortnite has thought of everything possible — new skins, emotes, weapons and gliders. What can they surprise us with? I’m sure we won’t be disappointed. The recent success of the Avengers Infinity War crossover proved that even one exclusive event skin could provide a massive surge in views and players just to get in on the novelty of it.
There you have it, folks! Our thoughts on what to expect from Epic Games at this E3. What would you guys like to see? Do you think the game is fine as is or needs more oomph on its current epicness (no pun intended)? Find out at this year’s E3!
