Five Nights at Freddy’s Film Lands Director

Five Nights at Freddy's

The Five Nights at Freddy’s film seems to be moving forward as the film gets a horror-experienced director.

Video game film adaptations are pretty scarce, presumably because most previous attempts haven’t gotten much praise. It looks like Warner Bros. wants to change that as it brings in an Oscar-nominated director to helm a film version of this cult-classic horror game.

Warner Bros. has brought in Gil Kenan, whose critic consensus seems to be a hit or miss, to fill that director’s chair. His most recent directorial effort was Poltergeist, which received mixed reviews. However, his film Monster House was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film of the Year in 2007.

According to comingsoon.net, Xbox One’s Quantum Break writer, Tyler Burton Smith, is set to write the script for the Five Nights at Freddy’s film as well, hopefully helping this movie retain some video game flavor.

This film’s announcement follows a wave of massive success with its source material’s fourth installment just recently being released. If you haven’t played Five Nights at Freddy’s, the point-and-click horror game follows a security guard working the overnight shift at an entertainment restaurant. Throughout the shift, the restaurant’s animatronics come to life and set about hunting down the guard in jump-scare fashion. This has helped the game become a staple with streamers with their viewing audience able to share in the frightful night shifts as well.

It’ll be interesting to see the game come to life on the big screen. What do you think of Warner Bros.‘ choice to direct the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie? Let us know in the comments below.
