Final Fantasy VII to see Steam Release

Square Enix has finally announced that Final Fantasy VII will be coming to Steam, Amazon, Gamestop and Square Enix Online stores. Priced at $11.99, seeing one of their most successful titles become available on all of the most popular avenues of digital acquisition is sure to be welcome news to some.

This version includes all of the features introduced last year in the Square Enix Online Store exclusive edition including a range of new features such as a “Character Booster” that enables players to fully power up their character, optional cloud saves, and in-game achievements to encourage players to explore various facets of the game.

I don’t know how easily veteran fans are going to accept “Character Boosting” and in-game achievements, but this is going to be a great way to introduce this wonderful title to a new generation of gamers that may not be as well versed in this heralded franchise. Whether or not this is the best title in the franchise is something I’m sure people will always debate, but there is no doubt that Final Fantasy VII has received critical acclaim and redefined the standard for role-playing games. With cutting-edge pre-rendered cinematic cut-scenes, an emotionally compelling story, and one of the most infamous rivalries in gaming history, this is a gem that is finally becoming vastly more accessible.
