Marvel Entertainment and Telltale games released the first screenshots and cast details of the upcoming Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series.
The game tells a new story featuring Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. According to a press release, the Guardians will discover and defend an artifact of unspeakable power. “Each of them has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands,” said the release. The game will take players to familiar locations such as Earth and Knowhere. Like previous Telltale games, the story promises to change based on player choice.
Marvel and Telltale also revealed the voice cast for the team. Telltale veteran Scott Porter (The Walking Dead: Season Two, Minecraft: Story Mode) will play Star-Lord. Emily O’Brien (Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor) will be taking on Gamora. Brandon Paul Eels (Watch Dogs) and Adam Harrington (The Wolf Among Us) will voice Drax and Groot respectively. Finally, Nolan North will be behind Rocket.
Marvel Games Creative Director Bill Rosemann and members of Telltale will host a panel at this weekend’s PAX East. The panel will discuss the creative process behind the game’s story. Next week at SXSW Telltale will hold a special crowd play of the first episode. Audience members will use their mobile devices to help influence the choices made in game.
Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series continues Telltale’s line of games based on comic characters. The game is not the only Guardians project coming this year. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the sequel to the 2014 film, premieres on May 5. It has also been rumored that Deus Ex developer Eidos Montreal is working on a game starring the characters. The unannounced game is reportedly still early in production and is part of Square Enix’s deal with Marvel. The first episode of Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series will premiere this spring on PC, consoles and mobile devices.
