The Witcher 3 is one of the most eagerly anticipated games of 2015. Releasing on May 19th, this upcoming RPG should be on everyone’s wish list.
Here are the top five reasons why we’re excited for The Witcher 3.
The World
Open worlds don’t usually excite me anymore. Dragon Age: Inquisition is a testament to how open worlds can encourage countless hours of pointless content. CD Projekt RED, however, has proven to be a developer uninterested in wasting your time. Everything we know from gameplay footage and developer interviews suggests that the devs know exactly how to fill an open world with dynamic activities and proper storytelling. Fetch quests will almost definitely be a part of the game, but if The Witcher 2 is any indication, they will always be tied to a compelling tale and will be far more creative than the usual ten boar pelt collection.
The Collector’s Edition
Look at that.
Just look at it! It’s glorious!
A reasonably priced (around $200) collection of things a Witcher fan would actually want. Along with the game, you also get a huge hand painted figure of Geralt battling a Griffin. The Witcher medallion is an important part of the game, so there’s a stunning replica included. A steelbook case, two-hundred page artbook, cloth map and two card decks are also part of the set. It’s an impressive offering that should prove tempting to any fan of the series.
An End To The Story
The Witcher games are based on best-selling fantasy novels by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Having a well realised, complex world to draw from really helped CD Projekt create a unique, compelling fantasy world to explore. Without any spoilers, The Witcher 3 will conclude a story that has been unfolding in their games since 2007. Both previous games were building towards the mystery of The Wild Hunt and The Witcher 3 should reveal all while giving the story the ending it deserves.
It’s a CD Projekt RED Game
CD Projekt RED has proved themselves as one of the most reliably awesome developers in gaming. With their award winning games being among the best RPG’s ever made and their digital download platform GOG being one of the most reliable and fair marketplaces for PC gamers. It’s only natural that we expect the very best from them based off their past accomplishments.
It’s a Witcher Game
The Witcher games are great. If you haven’t already played the first two, I highly recommend it. Unfortunately the first game hasn’t aged particularly well in terms of graphics, gameplay, and interface design, but the writing is still top notch. Due to this, you can feel free to skip the first game and jump right into The Witcher 2, a game that holds up beautifully and is still one of the best RPG’s you can play. For the first time in their history, developer CD Projekt RED are focusing solely on PC and next-gen (now current-gen) platforms. This means that they’ve been solely focusing on the cutting edge of technology instead of being hampered by previous generation limitations. The Witcher 3 promises to be one of the most technically brilliant games ever made.
