Fallout 4 Proves You Can Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

Fallout 4 Concept Art The Game Fanatics

Fallout 4 had a wildly successful showing at E3 a few months ago, and in order to keep the momentum going into the game’s release, Bethesda revealed a whole slew of new feaures and improvements at Gamescom in Germany this past weekend.

The first big new improvement is the shooting; while the V.A.T.S. system is still key for handling large groups or enemies with tactically superior positions, the first-person shooting has been streamlined to the point where gamers can just look down the sights of any gun for a quick and easy way to combat enemies. With this simple change, Bethesda hopes Fallout 4 will appeal to more FPS gamers than its predecessor, which relied heavily on constantly pausing the action.

On the other side of the gaming coin, the leveling system and perks for Fallout 4 have been tweaked for those players who prefer the RPG aspect of the series. The fact that there is no solid ending or level cap has already been covered, and now Bethesda have revealed that every time you level up, you receive a Perk influenced by where you’ve spent points in the SPECIAL (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck) tree. There are 270 Perks to unlock, and with the lack of a level cap, prepare to spend hundreds of hours unlocking every single one of them.

Fallout 4 is due for release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 10th.
