I remember a time when Silicon Knights could do no wrong. They feared their way into my heart with Eternal Darkness, impressed an older generation of gamers with Legacy of Kain, and entertained me with the Metal Gear Solid remake.
Since then, they’ve finished the highly disappointing Too Human and, recently, released the absolutely awful X-Men Destiny.
But today is a new day for Silicon Knights. Or an old day.
“We’re going back to our roots. I’m really looking forward to a point in time when we can talk about it, it’s just not today. That’s the current state of things. I think the state of our demise has been greatly exaggerated. Here we are. We’re here,” Denis Dyack, founder of Silicon Knights, said in a recent interview with Gamesindustry.biz. That “it” he is referring to would be their upcoming project, in development for next generation consoles. Dyack goes on, saying, “We’re really excited and we’re working on our next generation stuff. We’re working on an IP that’s our most requested and we’re really excited about that.”
Gamesindustry asked him if it was too much to ask for a sequel to the beloved Eternal Darkness and here was his response: “I don’t think it is too much to ask. Certainly we love Eternal Darkness. It’s a project that’s near and dear to our hearts.”
If you’ll excuse me, I have to go pop some champagne to celebrate this news.
