With the success of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, it seems that Square-Enix isn’t stopping at the mobile and tablet when it comes to releasing games for the Deus Ex franchise.
The popular Japanese publisher may also be looking to bring the story of biotechnincal augmentation and stealth gameplay back in a wide variety of ways. A trademark for Deus Ex: Universe has shown up on the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market website this morning.
This new title could entail a lot of things, but the listing for Deus Ex: Universe trademark and logo shows Square-Enix registering it as a computer game software, a book and online entertainment services, which means that Square-Enix and Eidos Montreal could be planning for the series to take on a widened scope of what they’ve already done in the past. A screenshot of the page can be seen here.
What they haven’t expanded on, however, are their online gaming capabilities. Seeing as how ‘universe’ implies a grander theme, it could also be possible that Square-Enix and Eidos Montreal are looking to introduce Deus Ex: Universe as a full-fledged massive multiplayer online experience. Can you imagine a bunch of us Adam Jensens running around everywhere?
Square-Enix could announce this during one of the conferences today. The company has also been reported to have decided not to release any more details concerning Final Fantasy XV or Kingdom Hearts III during the week-long spectacle. If that’s the case, Deus Ex: Universe may be that sort of surprise we’re looking for from the company, even it it isn’t behind a giant screen or in front of an audience of millions.
