E3 2013 | Ubisoft Reveals 'The Crew'

Ubisoft has unveiled their forthcoming open world online driving game The Crew. The Crew is a new kind of online social experience. The open world you’ll be traversing spans the entire United States where you can team up or compete with other players online in a variety of different types of events depending on the locale and terrain. The world is persistent, much like an MMO, and every car you see on the road is more than likely driven by another player.

“We want to give players a driving experience that goes way beyond the classic circuit-based racing games and really captures the boundless sense of freedom of driving across the U.S.,“ said, Julian Gerighty, creative director, Ubisoft. “Our teams are harnessing the power of next-generation platforms to make The Crew a challenging, immersive and non-stop world that can be shared by millions of players. This is a brand new driving game experience unlike anything that’s come before it.”

In addition to the wide range of features in game, a companion app will also be released for iOS and Android platforms expanding the experience even more. Although, details are limited as to what you’ll get with this “second screen”, according to Ubisoft the app will add “peripheral, complementary experiences, providing a more intricate player experience overall.”

Development on The Crew is a collaborative effort between various Ubisoft studios, being lead by Ivory Tower with input from Reflections Ltd, a studio probably best known for its work on the Driver franchise. Its being developed for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, targeted for an early 2014 release. For more info, check out Ubisoft’s official site.
