E3 2013 | The Wonderful 101 Gets Multiplayer

Platinum Games‘ upcoming Wii U superhero-meets-Pikmin exclusive, The Wonderful 101, will be even more hectic than originally thought. Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata announced today during their Nintendo Direct E3 video that multiplayer will be a part of The Wonderful 101 when it launches later this year. The game features a ton of superheroes, all at once, taking on an alien invasion. You’ll be able to draw symbols on the Wii U GamePad controller to make your group of heroes combine into various forms, like a giant sword or a really big fist, in over-the-top combat that honestly looks spectacularly fun.

Thankfully, Nintendo shared a new trailer for The Wonderful 101:

Yeah, it looks pretty awesome, with a big dose of over-the-top, cheesy superhero dialogue and humor.

Don’t go in looking for a long haul, though… the game’s producers have been unclear on just how long the game will be, but it most likely won’t be a long one. They’ve justified a shorter length by saying it promotes replayability, and if The Wonderful 101 is as fun and frantic as it looks, then that just may be the case.

There’s no word yet on just how the multiplayer aspect will be pulled off; we know it’ll support up to five players, but don’t know yet whether it’ll be online or just locally.

The Wonderful 101 hits North America on September 15th, and August 23rd in Europe.
