Sony has officially announced the name and specifications for their Next-Generation Portable. The handheld is now officially called the PlayStation Vita. The game will have two analog sticks and a five-inch organic-LED screen that supports multi-touch. The front and back will have touch-pads and cameras. There’s also a built-in mic and support for headsets. To top it off, the system supports sixaxis.
The device will come in two versions: a wi-fi-only version, and a Wi-Fi/3G cellular version. The official carrier for the United States is AT&T. While pricing and carriers for other territories haven’t been announced yet.
Also announced was a social connection tool called “Near.” The features were glossed over, but it’s apparently very useful in areas with other PlayStation Vita users.
The console will be available for Holiday 2011. The Wi-Fi-only model will retail for $249 USD/Euros while the 3G model will be $299 USD/Euros.
