You’ve probably seen the advertisements for Catherine, the majority of them featuring a buxom blond anime woman, enticing anyone who looks at her.
Catherine is as an action-adventure game filled with puzzles and dramatic, erotic flare. The game follows the main character, 32-year-old Vincent, who is being pressured by his girlfriend Katherine to get married. Meanwhile, there are strange news stories reporting young men mysteriously dying in their sleep. As Vincent struggles with his fear of commitment, he meets the mysterious and enticing Catherine. After a night out he wakes up in bed next to Catherine and from there his life begins to spiral out of control and strangely he begins to have frightening nightmares that threaten to kill him in his sleep.
As you play through the game as Vincent, you have to juggle the two women in his life and survive your way through horrific, and strange, puzzles. I’m talking sheep in ties strange (seriously). Check out the E3 trailer entitled “Vincent”:

There are 2D animated cutscenes woven in to the gameplay and according to reports, they compliment each other very well in the game. Perhaps this will influence more games to integrate 2D animated cutscenes in the future?
Catherine has already been receiving recognition at E3: Official Xbox Magazine cited it “Most Valuable Game” and it has received several nominations for “Best of E3”.
Perhaps this type of tripped out “soap opera” fused adventure game won’t appeal to everyone, but it promises to be game that will definitely offer something kooky and different to those who want something new. If you want a further peak in to Catherine, I highly recommend checking out the games official website.
Catherine releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on July 26th in North America.
