Zombies fans rejoice! Developer Techland has recently announced that their upcoming action-survival game, Dying Light, is scheduled for a late January 2015 release.

For those who are unaware of the game’s premise, Dying Light is a zombie-apocalypse themed game that takes place in the fictional, open world city of Harran. Players will be able to scale rooftops, leap over fences, and perform other various parkour tricks in order to traverse the environment.

Similar to Techland’s previous zombie-themed outings, Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, players are encouraged to explore the open world for supplies and resources that will ultimately help them craft some awesome weapons. Additionally, character customization is also available for each of the game’s four protagonists, allowing players to give their characters a unique and distinct appearance. Four-player cooperative play is also available at launch.

Techland also boasts Dying Light’s unique day-and-night cycle. During the day, players will find themselves scavenging the city for supplies and returning to their safe zones before nightfall all while avoiding the slow-moving zombies. During this hunt, players can opt rescue innocent victims and even set up various zombie-traps. Once the sun has settled however, zombies become more fierce. They gain the ability to sprint after players, deal increased damage, and even jump on rooftops. This newly designed feature is sure to leave players with a sense of extreme terror as they make their nightly trips out into the city in order to complete missions or locate resources.

Players who choose to pre-order Dying Light from select retailers will also be given access to the exclusive “Be the Zombie” Mode. In this Multiplayer Mode, players are given the opportunity to invade another players’ games as the Night Hunter. This monstrosity is described to be “an ultimate zombie with a unique set of deadly skills.”

Dying Light is due out on Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and PC on January 27th in the US, January 28th in Australia and New Zealand, and January 30th in Europe and Asia. You can read over our E3 2014 coverage over here if you want to get some more insight on the game.
