DOTA 2 is Now Live

Big news on the MOBA front today as Valve, creators of extremely successful franchises such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead and Portal, have announced the public launch of DOTA 2. During the two year beta period, DOTA 2 became the largest online community in Steam‘s history, peaking at over 300,000 concurrent users. Due to this explosive popularity, the DOTA 2 launch is being done in waves. This will hopefully ensure that existing DOTA 2 users will be able to keep playing without interruption while new players will be able to continually join the community.

“Thanks to those who participated in the beta and Workshop contributors, you’ve helped us build the game and define the infrastructure to support it,” said Erik Johnson of Valve. “Our goal over the next few weeks is continue to make the game more enjoyable as more players are brought in. We hope to make it as smooth as possible for existing players and new players alike.”

For those of you that would like to boot up your own copy of DOTA 2, visit the DOTA 2 Steam page, sign up, and keep a look out for an email confirmation that you’re download is available.
