Dontnod’ Vampyr Rules Out the Possibility of a DLC

Vampyr

In an era where DLC, content expansions and add-ons seem in fashion and pretty much post-release standard; the arrival of a no-DLC policy game is at least interesting. This is the case of Dontnod’s supernatural RPG, Vampyr, currently in the works and looking to a Spring 2018 release for Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4.

Unless this changes in the future, it seems that Vampyr wants to follow a different route. In declarations with MCVUK, Focus Interactive’s president Cédric Lagarrigue stated that the game is meant to be a purely solo experience. “We did not plan DLC. We would prefer, if the reception of the game justifies it, to think about a sequel,” Lagarrigue said. He also shared that Focus and Dontnod already have some ideas, “as there are so many incredible things to offer in such a universe.”

Vampyr, A Mix Between Indie and Triple-A

In Vampyr, we take the role of a Victorian bloodsucker as he rambles the dirty streets of London. With its clear RPG elements and emphasis on storytelling and moral systems, the game is gathering Dontnod’s creative prowess with Focus Interactive’s publishing support. When asked about how the project came to be, Cédric Lagarrigue’s answer is quite straight-forward. “We’ve been looking for years for a studio with a good vampire game project and Dontnod presented Focus with a new project,” he said. “The artistic and narrative dimensions were exciting.”

The budget for it may be smaller than those of crazy Triple-A but Lagarrigue’s not concerned about its potential. “Players yearn for new experiences, originality and less generic direction. There’s room for blockbusters, but players are ever fonder of different experiences.” Vampyr comes somewhere in between to satisfy both extremes of the spectrum and to create a unique way of entertainment.

VampyrEver since the announcement of Vampyr, we have been quite hooked on the collaboration between Dontnod and Focus Interactive. While news about a game’s delay is always a bummer, we look forward to discovering the luring universe that lies ahead.
