An Indiegogo campaign has been launched to fund the production of a documentary feature film that tells the true story of the British video games industry from 1979 to 1996.
‘From Bedrooms to Billions’ is a 90 minute documentary that will be produced by Filmmakers Anthony and Nicola Caulfield.
The film focuses on the creativity, fanaticism, and vision of a handful of people from the UK computer industry helped play an important role in the creation of today’s multi-billion dollar video game industry.
On their Indiegogo campaign webpage the Filmmakers explain that ‘From Bedrooms to Billions’ will essentially be the first time that this story has been told. It will contain interviews with key players who contributed to the UK video game scene as well as the pre-internet magazine publications that welcomed the new gamer following created by it.
[quote]‘From Bedrooms to Billions’ has been a very personal project for us since June 2008. Having completed many documentaries we have always wanted to document the rise of the British video games industry and the incredible story that went with it.
We have already completed pre-production and have begun the production of the film, having already filmed several interviews the story has continued to grow and opened up some additional stories that we really want to include in the film. The funding we have asked for will allow us to complete all of our planned interviews.
Your support for this project will allow us to complete all of the filming and move the film into post-production where we can begin to put the film together.

There are some pretty interesting perks to contributing certain amounts, anywhere from having your name in the credits to having your portrait painted by legendary ZZAP!64, CRASH & AMTIX video game magazine artist Oliver Frey. As of right now the Indiegogo campaign has raised $1,725 of it’s $35,000 goal and will run until July 17.
