Sekai Project released a trailer for a new localized doujin game: Magical x Spiral. The game is developed by Broken Desk.
Just like Battle Crust, Magical x Spiral was premiered during last December’s Comiket. The game by doujin circle, Broken Desk, is a platformer. What makes the game unique is the perspective. The character is climbing up a spiraling tower -hence the name. Each level is cleared as you climb higher up the tower. Sekai Project’s page promises a dynamic game play system where your character can speed through the tower to finish as quickly as possible, or they can take your time and clear out all the areas. The character is able to meet the tower’s spirits and use their powers to gain new abilities. Sticking with the same spirit will increase the “synchro rate,” which will allow you to summon the spirit with a powerful attack. Coins are earned upon clearing the level, and can be used to buy stat boosting items. Each level uses a ‘magic test’ as its theme.
Magical x Spiral’s protagonist, Medianne Phirtia, is a student in the region of Midgard. She is obsessed with a magical fairy tale world called Celestria. When she isn’t studying she is doing all she can to find out more about Celestria. Quickly, she finds out that the magical realm does indeed exist. Furthermore, a tower, Phantasm Tower, in the center of the world is the Celestria’s entrance. Currently, the site says the game is 100% translated, and is its coding stages. There’s no release date as of yet, but there’s a mailing list you can sign up for to receive updates.
Sekai Project is well known for bringing doujin games to the west and, in particular, to Steam. Most of their efforts revolve around visual novels, but they do release some platformers every once in a while. Desunoya’s games have been localized by Sekai Project.
