The Division Will Hit the Big Screen

Ubisoft is not putting the breaks on and wants to keep its honeymoon with cinema fruitful. After wrapping up the production of Assassin’s Creed, it seems the studio wants to move forward and bring The Division to theaters as well.

They have not finished their last project and they are thinking about the next one. According to Variety, Ubisoft is already discussing the possibility of bringing The Division to the big screen. On top of that, a name has appeared in the line-up and makes us tingle with joy: Jake Gyllenhaal, who already knows what is to get into the shoes of a videogame character. Back in 2010, he was our very own Prince of Persia in the movie adaptation of The Sand of Time (which, by the way, could have a sequel in the future).

They are still on the lookout for a script writer to pen the story. Likewise, the name of the director or any approximation as to when we’ll see this happening remains in the shadows for now.

The Division

The Division Will not be the Last

When you think about it, the announcement makes sense. The Division is, after all, one of the biggest hits that Ubisoft has managed to pull out lately. It has become one of their fastest selling products, surpassing the previous company record achieved by Watchdogs. And the joy continues. The streets of Manhattan are seeing the arrival of new stories, new missions and further content, courtesy of the updates that will come out this year. The (in)famous Dark Zone is still a very deadly place, home of multiple factions fighting for dominance. So the prospect of expanding on that fascinating world through another medium is pretty luring.

Fact is, Ubisoft has already opened a lot of doors for all their different segments of fans. Assassin’s Creed followers are getting all the hype they need after the world premier trailer aired last month and wait patiently to December 21, moment where they’ll enter the Animus. Another project in the pipeline is Splinter Cell – however, this has been keep more secretive even if it was announced already in 2012. Set to release next year, it will tell the story of a younger Sam Fisher played by Tom Hardy. Further details are unknown at the moment so we’ll need to wait as well for that.

All in all, videogame adaptations are on the rise these days and it seems Ubisoft has found exactly their comfortable niche. Which one of them would you like to see first?
