Disney Infinity Coming To Consoles, 3DS In June

Disney looks to copy the success of the Skylanders franchise with their next gaming project. Disney Infinity has been officially unveiled, and it looks awesome. The premise is simple enough: the game will come with small figurines that you’ll connect to a dock, much like Activision’s Skylanders series, and then you’ll use that figurine as your in-game character for both specific missions (example: only Jack Sparrow can be used in levels based on Pirates of the Caribbean) and the “toybox” mode, which allows characters from different franchises to cross over through tutorials, adventure missions, and a mode designed at building your own version of the Magic Kingdom.

Disney Infinity combines prominent Disney and Pixar characters and scenarios in a way that mimics how kids play in real life,” said Avalanche VP John Blackburn. “With our platform’s unique gameplay mechanics and innovative approach to user generated content within the ‘Toy Box’ mode, Disney Infinity will spark imaginations and provide endless hours of fun and creativity.”

The game will launch with a $75 starter pack, which comes with Mr. Incredible, Sully (from Monster’s Inc.), and Jack Sparrow. In addition, Disney will release 40 collectible pieces, 17 figurines, the Disney Infinity base, and discs that interact with different characters to grant them unique powers.

Consoles confirmed for the June release are the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo’s Wii, Wii U, and 3DS, but Avalanche Software says they also plan on releasing it to smartphones in the future.
