While the console versions of Epic Mickey 2 may be the hot news right now, but there was always hope for an Epic Mickey sequel making its way to 3DS, and we finally have official word.
Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion is a 3DS exclusive throwback to the Sega Genesis title Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse. The castle has fallen into the Wasteland, along with its old inhabitants, who plan to escape the castle and “drain the cartoon essence from currently famous Toons.” Mickey will have his paintbrush from the first game, allowing him to spray paint as well as paint thinner, to defeat the evil witch Mizrabel.
The game will also include a few interesting gameplay hooks that just won’t be possible on the console versions. From the press release:
In “Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion,” Reality is What You Paint of It. The game offers a special drawing and painting function that allows players to create rough versions of objects that magically transform into classic Disney-style 2D illustrations. Utilizing the game’s unparalleled dual screen integration, players then move their creations to the top screen where they are further transformed into full-color, fully-rendered 3D visuals.
I’m pretty interested to see how this Epic Mickey will stack up to the console versions. The premise is very cool, keeping with the theme of “forgotten Disney” while showing tribute to one of Mickey’s oldest video game adventures. Drop a comment below, and tell us what you think.
