Good news for the nostalgic ahead. Microsoft has unveiled today the first 13 original Xbox games that will be compatible with Xbox One. Each of these games comes in 1080p resolution, smoother frame rates and also faster loading times.

  • Fuzion Frenzy

Xbox
You can revisit the original KOTOR in your Xbox One now…

Xbox Backward-Compatibility in a Nutshell

The only thing you need is to have the original Xbox disc, insert it into your Xbox One console and magic will happen. This works if you own a digital copy as well. On that note, a great deal of these games can be found in the Xbox Store for $9.99.

This also reaches to all titles that support System Link multiplayer – even across the Xbox family. IGN states that they could play a round of Crimson Skies with four simultaneous players on four different consoles: an original Xbox, an Xbox One X, Xbox One S and Xbox One. The only thing not working is basic multiplayer since the servers for the original games closed up several years ago.

As for what other Xbox original games will be brought to us next, the Microsoft team could not tell. And we should not keep our expectations too high. Even if bringing some of them forward is technically possible, there could be other quandaries to contemplate: game publishers not existing, licensing issues, and other legal problems. However, we will probably have another wave of backward compatibility happening in the future, a possibility we cannot but welcome. After all, who does not like that extra 1080p coating?

Have you played any of those games, Fanatics? Are you looking forward to playing some of these on your Xbox One? Do you think backward compatibility should be extended to more games and platforms? Let us know in the comment section down below!
