An expansion for Diablo III has been confirmed via a conference call regarding the Q3 earnings report for Activision Blizzard.
Mike Morhaime, Blizzard CEO, stated that the Diablo III expansion will focus on the quality of the expansion and its gameplay. There’s no timeline yet in place for a release date, which is no surprise. But we didn’t even get the typical “when it’s ready” line from Blizzard. Instead, all indications show a greater focus on making a great game. While Diablo III has over 10 million copies, making it the top selling PC game in the U.S. and Europe since its May release, some fans were let down with the game. Hopefully Blizzard can address the issues that didn’t excite some gamers and put forth an expansion to be remembered.
For what it’s worth, Diablo II saw its expansion, Diablo II Lord of Destruction, launch a year after the original. Sufficed to say, we don’t expect the same to be said here. We can expect more details next year at BlizzCon, should there be one.
There appeared to be no mention of a console release of any kind, despite some rumblings we’ve heard this year.
