A new video was released today by the official PlayStation YouTube channel detailing some of the new features Bungie set up for the remote play controls for Destiny. For those that own a Vita, you all know how iffy the controls can get when they’re ported over to the handheld especially when it’s a game that uses all of the buttons. Some games do it extremely well like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Resogun, while other games fall miserably short like Diablo 3 and Battlefield 4. Ported shooter controls are the bane of PS Vita remote play but Bungie is looking to rectify some of these shortcomings in interesting ways.
For example, holding down on the d-pad lets you sprint which is a welcomed change of pace since many games have you awkwardly reaching for the back touchpad to sprint which is a huge pain; I’m looking at you Killzone Mercenary. Also, throwing grenades and melee are designated to the left and right quadrants of the front touch-screen which should make things a lot snappier in the midst of battle.
Of course it’s important to note that your experience using Remote Play for Destiny hinges upon how well you are connected to your internet. For best results, use a wired Ethernet connection on your PS4.
Destiny is so close we can smell it, and it smells oh so nice.
