DC Universe Online To Become Free-to-Play

Another one bites the dust.

Sony Online Entertainment has announced today that DC Universe Online, the MMORPG that lets DC Comic fans play along side their favorite comic book heroes and villains, will become a free-to-play MMO in late October.

“We believe this new model will expand the DCUO experience and offer more options that cater to every type of player so they can play the game in a way that fits them,” says SOE president John Smedley.

There will be three different payment options: free, premium, and legendary.

Legendary will essnetially be the same game experience as it is now; $14.99 a month and the added bonus of more character slots and all future downloadable content. Premium will be for anyone who spends at least $5 on in-game items, giving them more character slots and inventory slots.

Those who don’t wish to pay anything can still enjoy the game’s missions and raids on up to two characters, as well as the ability to join leagues with friends.

Sony has full details on the changes here.
