Among the multiple AAA trailers and gameplay demos shown at the Sony E3 conference this year, one announcement sneaked in from the past to stand out – the return of original Sony mascot Crash Bandicoot to PlayStation 4 via a collection of remastered classics and a special Skylanders Imaginators expansion.
I’m sorry, but all I can imagine following the reveal of remastered editions of the first three Crash Bandicoot games at the same time as a new Hideo Kojima game is Crash crawling up over the ridge from that first Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes trailer and grimly intoning; “Kept you waiting, huh?”
Admit it, its funny.
Anyway, perhaps the biggest crowd reaction of the entire Sony press conference was the long awaited return of Crash Bandicoot, though not exactly in the way people may have been hoping. Rather than a full return of the one-time face of PlayStation to Sony with his own new game, Sony and Activision will be remastering the original three games for PlayStation 4. That would be Crash Bandicoot, Crash 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash 3: Warped – though it remains unclear whether or not these will be full remakes or standard remasters. As a part of this, Crash will be jumping into Skylanders Imaginators as a new character this fall. You can catch a trailer for that above.
We’ll have more on the new past adventures of Crash Bandicoot and everything else as E3 week continues.
