At the 25th Anniversary of Metal Gear event, fans were treated to the long awaited confirmation that Metal Gear Solid was coming to the big screen! Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation was one of the very first to bring the “Hollywood Blockbuster” atmosphere to a video game with innovative storytelling and cutscenes that could rival the big-name action movies (despite the graphics). It was the first time you could have a movie-like experience with a video game, so a Metal Gear Solid movie almost seemed like a match made in heaven.
Hideo Kojima will be partnering with Avi Arad, a former Marvel executive, to bring Solid Snake to life with Columbia and Sony Pictures backing the film. In a tidbit that will make some people cringe, Kojima stated that he would like to see someone like Ben Affleck in the lead role. I think Affleck is a great actor, though he would not suit this role, but I digress.
No release date was given, but I think it would be safe to assume 2015. The movie is still in the early stages and there’s been no news that a script has been finalized. This is big news and we here at TGF will be covering the movie every step of the way, so keep checking back!
