Code Vein Is Bandai Namco’s New Vampire RPG

Code Vein Teaser

Bandai Namco’s new game is a vampire RPG called Code Vein according to Famitsu.

Thanks to a translation from Gematsu, additional details have emerged after last week’s Prepare to Dine teaser. The game is being developed by the God Eater team as a “dungeon exploration-type, hard action RPG.”

Veteran God Eater producer Yosuke Tomizawa is the project team leader for Code Vein. The game is not linked to the God Eater franchise. Players take on the role of Revenants, vampires with supernatural powers. The Revenants will explore dungeons while trying to satisfy their thirst and survive in the ruined world. Players won’t have to tackle the world alone, bringing along an AI buddy to help them overcome the toughest challenges.

The game takes place in seamless open world with combat using mostly melee weapons. In addition to melee combat, players will have special abilities tied to blood sucking. These abilities, called Tempered Blood, can weaken enemies, unleash new attacks or strengthen the player character. The game, running on Unreal Engine 4, is about 35 percent complete according to the Famitsu article. The team didn’t specify platforms but said it will release on console.

Shift, the studio behind the game, is best known for their action-RPG God Eater series. In addition to the God Eater games, Shift has also developed Freedom Wars as well as spinoffs from the Ape Escape series. Their most recent game, God Eater Resurrection, launched last year on PlayStation 4. It is a remaster of the first God Eater.

Expect more details on Code Vein to be revealed on April 20 as part of the game’s official announcement. There is also a gameplay trailer that will be released in May.
