Child's Play Set Annual Record in 2010

It’s hard to not know about Child’s Play if you’re a part of any gaming community or visit gaming news websites. From Loading Ready Run’s annual Desert Bus for Hope charity drive to being able to fund charities when buying the Humble Indie Bundle, 2010 was a killer year for Child’s Play.

To date, the charity has received $8,998,564 in donations since it was founded in 2003. Each year has surpassed the last. This year, an incredible $2,294,317 in donations was received. That’s 25% of their total donations.

The previously mentioned Humble Indie Bundle has been wildly successful. So much that $300,000 was earned for Child’s Play. Likewise, Desert Bus for Hope, which has held annual Desert Bus marathons since 2007 earned over $200,000. The Gears of War 3 Fate of Carmine campaign, where people could buy avatar shirts for $1, voting to either let Carmine live or die brought in $150,000.

“Just because we’ve surpassed our goal this year doesn’t mean we’re going to slow down, in fact we are planning to expand so we can help even more children next year,” explains Kristin Lindsay, Child’s Play’s Foundation Coordinator.

Being the brain child of Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins of Penny Arcade Fame, they added a bit of humor in the press release:

“I could not be happier with the record shattering results of our incredible Charity,” said Mike Krahulik, Storm Wizard.

“I hardly know how to respond to it,” exclaimed Jerry Holkins. “The world may be a better place than I previously thought.

“Jerry’s comment is better,” remarked Mike Krahulik, Storm Wizard.
