Back when God of War came out on the Playstation Portable, gamers thought it was impossible. In fact, coming off God of War II, you no doubt but to wonder how you can fit the game on that little machine. Let it be known, Ready at Dawn was able to do it. Not only were they able to get it done, but made a great experience in the end.
Recently, Ready at Dawn had a interview with IndustryGamers, stating that the game could have possibly been a side-scroller. In the interview, Dana Jan, lead level designer on the game, stated “There were early discussions of making Chains of Olympus a side-scroller rather than 3D in case the experience couldn’t be fully realized on a handheld.”
“Games like God of War don’t usually translate well when they are brought to handhelds. The gameplay, graphics, animation, sound, etc. have a tendency to ‘differ’ from their console counterparts,” he added. Looks like Naughty Dog shouldn’t be the only we getting the praise.
