CD Projekt Red Studio has announced, during its summer conference, that it’s currently working on a triple-A title based on Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk.
With gameplay that promises to be taken just as serious as the studios previous titles, most recently: The Witcher 2, this title will be directed at mature and demanding players. We can expect the same level of depth in this new Cyberpunk title that we’ve come to expect from Western RPGs, such as: unique and customizable class options, morally ambiguous narrative decisions, and vast agency within the game world. Mike Pondsmith himself stated that:
“For over two decades, I’ve been proud to say that Cyberpunk’s been the gold standard of what it means to be a true Cyberpunk game. And it’s been a huge success for me and our many fans, with over 5 million players worldwide. But over all that time we haven’t found the right team to bring our cyberpunk world to full digital life — until now.”
The team assigned to work on this new RPG will consist of veterans from The Witcher 2, as well as a host of new personnel, ensuring a high quality title that will also bring fresh ideas to what promises to be an exciting take on a genre that isn’t often pursued.
That big news aside, some announcements about The Witcher series were also made.
Namely, sales data (1.7 million copies sold for the PC and Xbox360), as well as news that they’re expanding their markets, indicate that The Witcher 2 is an unquestioned success.
Also, that CDP RED Studio is offering a free digital back-up copy of “The Witcher: Enhanced Edition” to all PC gamers who already own the game or plan on buying it in the future.
