In Case You Missed It – Weekly News Roundup for the Week of July 30th, 2016

One Night in Karazhan Hearthstone Expansion

The end of another week means that we here at the Game Fanatics can find out what news stories might have slipped under your radar. After all, things have been hectic lately with the Democratic National Convention, Pokemon GO’s still climbing popularity, and with our own day to day lives. While we may not have got it all the first time around, here is the week’s news In Case You Missed It.

In Case You Missed the Battle of the Squid Moms…

For those of you who aren’t Splatoon players, the final Splatfest turf wars ended last Sunday. Unlike the previous Splatfests that asked the simple questions in life (Burgers or Pizza? Early Bird or Night Owl? Pokemon Red or Pokemon Blue?), the final showdown pit the entire player base into a waifu war that will never truly be forgotten. That’s right; the last brawl was to decide which of the two hosts–Callie or Marie–was the best. I won’t spoil the final tally here, but let’s just say it was a really close call.

In Case You Missed that One Twitch Stream…

Last Monday, a Twitch streamer known as Summit1g decided to hang out at the lovely Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs while streaming their Pokemon GO adventures. While there, one viewer directed everyone to pay very close attention in the next few minutes. Then the police showed up with their guns ready, apparently responding to a report stating that the streamer and his friend had “planted remote bombs in the park and wants to kill cops.” Luckily, Summit1g managed to explain the situation before anyone was hurt.

In Case You Missed Your Chance to Invest in Nintendo…

Don’t feel too bad about it. While Nintendo’s stocks have been rising dramatically since Pokemon GO’s launch, this week saw the whole stock market realizing that Nintendo didn’t actually make the game everyone likes. Niantic is actually the maker of Pokemon Go, and Nintendo is only receiving 13% of sales from the game. In other words, a mass exodus saw Nintendo’s stocks plummet. This bad news is compounded when you take into account Nintendo’s latest quarterly earnings report found the beloved company with a net loss of $232 million dollars. Also, Pokemon GO Plus – the peripheral that is supposed to help you find nearby Pokemon without wasting your phone’s battery 24/7 – has been delayed until September. Sorry.

Then again, these things might have just sold out immediately.
Then again, the folks at Nintendo might just be hoarding these.

In Case You Missed Doom’s Multiplayer…

Get ready to dive back in! Bethesda announced on Thursday that Doom will be getting a free update to its multiplayer and a new DLC titled Unto the Evil. The update will add two new modes – a capture-the-flag mode called Exodus and a capture-and-hold mode called Sector – in addition to the Mancubus demon and a suite of new Hell-based areas for players to use in Doom’s level editor, SnapMap. Unto the Evil, on the other hand, includes three new multiplayer maps as well as a menagerie of perks, taunts, and weapons, and will be the game’s first paid downloadable content.

In Case You Didn’t Stay Up Till 1 AM…

Well-rested Hearthstone fans woke up Friday morning to find that Blizzard announced the disco-themed One Night in Karazhan adventure while they were sleeping. The insomniac branch of the Hearthstone community, however, was already dancing along to the funky beats and fawning over the absurdly handsome Medivh. The expansion will add 45 new cards starting August 11th, but players will have to best Karazhan’s star-studded list of bosses in epic dance battles card games.

And that’s just some of what happened this week on In Case You Missed It! Be sure to swing back to the Game Fanatics throughout the week to find out what will happen next!
