In Case You Missed It – Gaming News for the Week of February 13 – 19, 2017

I got up this morning thinking, “Huh, I wonder what happened last week in the world of games?” Here’s what I found on this week’s edition of In Case You Missed It!

In Case You Aren’t Sure Where Your Copy of Final Fantasy X For PS2 Went…

It happens to all of us. We have some games, we move somewhere, and one of them goes missing. Unfortunately for Nintendo fan Byuu, that “one game” was actually over 100, and they were valued at roughly $10,000. According to Eurogamer, Byuu had borrowed the games from a collector in Europe with the intent to create a digital ROM library of every SNES game ever created. Sadly, one of the five shipments was lost by the USPS a month ago. Byuu has stated that, because of this loss, he will be unable to continue his work, as he only wants to help the anonymous collector either replace or be compensated for his 100 missing games.

In Case You Missed Weird Mini Games…

How about driving a station wagon while looking at random factoids about Twitch in 2016? ‘Cause that’s a thing now. Twitch, the massive streaming platform where the word “Kappa” does not mean the odd turtle/duck monster from Japanese folklore, released a small game with that exact description. You can play it here, and there is a reward for players who log in.

I heard that the game takes place post-apocalypse. I imagine that it went something like this.

In Case You Missed the Smell of Napalm in the Morning…

You’ll have to wait a little longer for “the horror.” Last month, Kickstarter got an odd addition to its growing list of projects: Apocalypse Now the Game. Described as “like Fallout: New Vegas on acid in Vietnam,” the development of the game is being overseen by Francis Ford Coppola, the director of the original film. The project, though, was nowhere close to reaching its goal, getting only $172,000 of the $900,000 it requested, and it has since canceled its Kickstarter campaign. The game may still come out, as crowdfunding has since shifted to the developer’s website.

In Case You Just Downloaded Windows 10…

Welcome to the collective. According to Steam, Windows 10 usage grew over 30 percent in the past month. It’s still not as popular as Windows 7, but the OS is gaining massive ground with gamers who want to be on top of tech. Then again, older operating systems do eventually become obsolete. Case in point: Blizzard is ending support for their games on Windows XP and Vista later this year.

In Case You Somehow Still Care About Monopoly

So… Monopoly… Okay, let’s just say that this story is really silly. For some reason, Hasbro wants to “update” the game’s tokens. They held online polls, and the results are in; the thimble is out. It makes sense since thimbles are some sort of weird item used for sewing, I think. Now the question is what they will replace it with. We’ll have to wait until “World Monopoly Day” on March 19th for the answer. In the meantime, here’s why you should never play Monopoly again.

Remember: this game is meant to be a lesson on the destructive power of Monopolies. "Not" meant to be a fun time.

That’s it for this week! Be sure to come back next week for last week’s news on In Case You Missed It!
