The Call of Duty franchise has so many installments of the game that some would feel that the newer game releases aren’t getting the popular recognition the franchise used to get. That may be a true opinion of some, but for many, the arrival of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was highly anticipated and worth the wait. Thanks to Activision I received a review copy of the game to play and obsess over so a Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 review could be presented to our viewership.
When launch day for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 came I wasn’t as excited as I usually am for the new Call of Duty release. I don’t know if it is because I am growing tiresome of the yearly installment of the game or I just didn’t get as pumped as I typically am. I fear that, with most of the community, I am tired of playing a new Call of Duty game every year. That being said my expectations for the game weren’t as high as they usually were.
Don’t get me wrong, I was pumped when it was announced. I was pumped when I heard there were going to be quadcopters as a killstreak reward. I was definitely pumped when I saw the weekly news for the game come into my inbox and published on the site… but I also felt that this game was going to be just like every other Call of Duty release… Oh, I was wrong.
Public Lobbies:
Zombies: “Get off the bus! Get off the bus! Wait! Get back on the bus! Get back on the bus! CLOSE THE DOORS…” When I first started playing the new Zombie game type, I was very confused. I was getting screamed at to get on a bus, get off the bus, find parts and kite zombies around the map more so than I have ever done in any Zombie map in the franchise. I must say that I was actually really turned off by the Zombie maps in Black Ops II.
My number one pet peeve with the game is player collision. It happens all the time. It happens when you spawn at the start of the game and now you have it when playing Zombies… let me just say there is no way in hell, you will see me getting on that damn bus with a party full of noobs. I recommend playing it with a well trained Zombie hunting team. Unless you enjoy getting completely frustrated and annoyed? Save that pleasure for the team deathmatch lobby!
Multiplayer: You can always count on Call of Duty developers to create an amazing multiplayer environment for every type of gamer. That being said, the menu options for multiplayer online play are quite amazing too. I was pleased with how easily it was to maneuver through them. Even though there was a little lag and loading time issues with some of the menu options, I have nothing else to complain about with the newly designed multiplayer menus.
I won’t rant about the usual player collision issue or the laggy disconnects that a part of almost every game I’ve played online… but I will rant about how awesome the maps are! I love them! I’ve never had a more enjoyable time learning maps with any of the games in the franchise. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the last game that had an amazing set of maps. My all time favorite is “Hijack“. Am I the only one who sings “I’m On a Boat” when it’s loading??? I hope not.
So what else is there to say about the multiplayer lobby? Not much. The new killstreak system is amazing. The loadouts can be confusing in the beginning. Customizing them can be tricky if you don’t read all the options and what to do… like… choosing your weapon’s color. I didn’t know that option existed for a long time. Not that making you weapon all fashionable is important but I know some gamers really enjoy making their guns super cameo’d out. Yeah, I said it. I went there.
Campaign:
Many people say that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has the best single player campaign that any of the games in the franchise has ever had. Some say that the campaign worth sitting down and playing the levels multiple times. I say that this campaign was pretty darn good and had a great story behind it. Summing up everything I’ve heard and how I feel about it, I would give the campaign itself, 5 stars. I mean, let’s be honest… the opening scene is just awesome in its own! I was stoked to play this campaign.
I felt like a time traveler in the campaign. Learning new information about the main character and his family were interesting. I can’t believe the campaign took us to 2025. The weapons were fun to utilize especially through the different eras. This was something I enjoyed. It’s all about the pew pew pew with me.
Spoilers are not my forte, so I won’t go into details about the campaign other than you should be sitting at your console after this starting it if you haven’t already!
Overall, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has won the heart of myself and numerous of fans across the globe. Whether you play it for the multiplayer, Zombies or the campaign you can count on the game to be entertaining and worth every penny.
