Borderlands Movie Confirmed

Borderlands fans better prepare themselves to see Skags and Psychos blown to bits on the big screen. Variety reports that Lionsgate has acquired the movie rights to Gearbox’s over-the-top series.

The father-son duo of Avi and Ari Arad are heading production. Already promised is, “a bold, provocative, no-holds-barred motion picture phenomenon that will delight Borderlands‘ current legions of fans and captivate moviegoers around the world.”

Take-Two Interactive Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick shares, “Lionsgate has emerged as a major creative force in the global marketplace with an incredible portfolio of brands; our partners at Gearbox have pioneered and cultivated an iconic property; and Avi and Ari Arad are two of the most successful producers of action franchises.”

Spearheading the proceedings has been Peter Levin, Lionsgate‘s president of interactive ventures and games. Having previously served as Nerdist Industries CEO, Levin is well acquainted with the territory.

Arads’ previous projects include a wealth of super hero films including the Iron Man and X-Men franchises. It would seem that the pair have an interest in bringing video game adaptations to the movie-going public. Should the Borderlands project be a success, it may lay the groundwork to revisit attempts to adapt other series such as Uncharted or Metal Gear Solid.
