Epic Games Gears of War: Judgment, billed as a prequel, will contain an extra campaign, titled simply Aftermath. Players can unlock this storyline through earning stars, rewards for finishing major story points in the core campaign, and all these must be earned to gain access to Aftermath, an addition to the events leading to the conclusion of Gears of War 3, following Cole and Baird, and the story of what happened while Marcus was putting bullet holes in GoW3’s final boss.
Referring to this addition to Judgment, Jim Brown, the game’s lead level designer, says, “We wanted to do something that added context to the game, so you had that beginning part, but then this ties everything together with the main trilogy as well. So you’ll see when you go in there some people you recognize, some places, maybe even some enemies and then see how the two storylines weave together in the context of the whole franchise.”
Not wanting to give too much in the way of spoilers, Brown did add that in Gears of War 3, Marcus sends Cole and Barrett on a mission to seek out aid and weaponry, then proceeds to the end of GoW3. Brown says that Aftermath is the sequence of events that occurs between them leaving for this mission and arriving back with helicopters at the end. Though this is all players have to run on for the moment, this span of time in Gears of War 3’s story alludes to an additional campaign of decent length.
