Bitcoins and Gaming: Zynga Testing Bitcoins as Method of Payment

Bitcoins have been the center of the online news for quite some time now, and it’s not surprising to see the open-source digital currency start inching its way into video games.

Zynga may not be one of the first video game companies to explore the idea of virtual currency, but in the r/bitcoin sub-Reddit, the company official stated that they will be testing Bitcoin purchases on their website.

The company stated that this method of payment is being tested only on Zynga.com, and only for the following games:  FarmVille 2, CastleVille, ChefVille, CoasterVille, Hidden Chronicles, Hidden Shadows and CityVille. Their Facebook and mobile games are not being considered, for obvious reasons.

It will be interesting to see how the industry responds to this, and how many Zynga customers will actually be spending their Bitcoins there.

We’ll keep you updated.
