What makes you S.P.E.C.I.A.L? If you’re unsure, let Bethesda Studios and Vault-Tec guide the way for you. As the days tick closer to making our return to the Wastelands in Fallout 4, Bethesda has been kind enough to refresh everyone’s memories as to why we are all S.P.E.C.I.A.L.
Bethesda’s unique character system returns in Fallout 4 and us Vault Dwellers must make sacrifices as we max out one skill and neglect the others.
As any veteran fan of the Fallout series would know, you begin the game with inputting points into your S.P.E.C.I.A.L – Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck.
These will be the base stats of your character and will have an impact on how you build and play your character in Fallout. Sometimes they could have a direct effect on your story. For example, if you have your Intelligence at a very low level, your speech options will change to make your character appear… uneducated.
Bethesda Studios recently released an in depth look at what the character system will be like in Fallout 4. Leveling up your character and gaining perks are going to be much different in this next installment of Fallout.
After choosing how to allocate your points into which S.P.E.C.I.A.L’s you desire, ranging from one through ten, you will exit Vault 111. As soon as you can, you will be asked to choose perks that will affect your play style. For example, if you make your Charisma fully maxed out at level ten, you will have access to the Intimidation Perk immediately.
Depending on what playstyle you prefer to follow in Fallout 4, you will need to pay close attention to your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. If you’re new to the Fallout universe, Bethesda Studios and Vault-Tec have created a delightful mini-series to teach the importance of each S.P.P.E.C.I.A.L and what benefits they will give to the players.
Bethesda Studios has only released four out of the seven videos in this mini-series as of today. They of course started with Strength. What will Strength do for your character in Fallout 4? By increasing your strength you will be able to carry more weight on your person, and you will do more melee damage.
Next up in the lineup is Perception. When playing Fallout it is important to be aware of your surroundings. Increased Perception will allow your player to be more accurate with his/her weapon and it will help your pilfering adventures as well.
Third is Endurance. Endurance is important in any Fallout game because this will allow your character to take more damage and radiation, and you will be able to run for a longer period of time. Who doesn’t love that?
And for now, the last video you can watch on Bethesda Studios’s website is for Charisma. High Charisma will allow you to charm your way out of difficult situations, acquire better deals through merchants, and even help improve your relationships with the local wildlife.
Fallout 4 will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 10th, 2015. Only then will you be able to find out what makes you S.P.E.C.I.A.L!
