On October 3, 2012, Zenimax subsidiary company, Bethesda Softworks, announced its opening of Battlecry Studios in Austin, Texas. Rich Vogal, long-time participant in the video games industry, will be heading the operation, coming most recently from Bioware’s Star Wars: The Old Republic, where he worked as a producer. His repertoire also includes Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies among other titles.
Battlecry Studios is still in the process of hiring new employees to fill out its team for a currently unannounced title.
Of Bethesda, Vogel says, “I’ve always admired and respected Bethesda’s approach to making great, original games,” and says of his work with them, “I’m looking forward to building a team of high quality developers who want to bring the same commitment and creative energy to the games we’ll be creating.”
The president of Bethesda, Vlatko Andonov, says, in turn, of Vogel, “We are very pleased to have someone with Rich’s vast experience join us at Bethesda.” This new addition to the Zenimax family will be the second studio of its kind in Austin, next to Arkane Studios, the team heading the upcoming Dishonored.
While projects have yet to be announced, we can expect great things, based on Zenimax’s and Bethesda’s track record so far.
