I’m sure that by now everyone is aware of the goings on between Minecraft developer Notch and Skyrim creators Bethesda, so i’ll skip the torrid back story.
It seems that after months of contact between the two, the ‘Scrolls‘ case is going to court. Notch announced the unsurprising revelation today via his twitter account in his usual style, stating;
The Scrolls case is going to court! Weee! 😀
Notch himself doesn’t seem to concerned by the impeding legal proceedings, this can either be taken as a sign of full-hearted confidence or full-blown arrogance, whatever your opinion on Notch’s attitude the case will certainly be an interesting one.
The implications for a Bethesda victory in this case raise some interesting problems, if you can’t call a game ‘scrolls’ can you call one ‘Elder’ ? Will the two words have to be at least 3 words apart at all times? Could Notch simply rename Mojang’s next title to “This Elder Game Does Not Contain Scrolls”?. It’s a philosophical quandary worthy of the ages, that’s for sure.
