Award-Winning RPG Series Ends with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Yesterday, The Game Fanatics brought you the release announcement for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and artwork featured in Game Informer.  Since then, we’ve received more details and a closer look at the dynamics of this title from the perspective of studio head Adam Badowski.

What stands out first and foremost is Badowski’s enthusiasm for the scale of the world that this third and final installment of The Witcher series brings its fans. Players will recognize the non-linear storyline found in The Witcher and The Witcher 2, albeit with minimal restrictions due to a world that is 30 times bigger than that of the last game. As mentioned in our previous story, the expansive environment calls for travel by horseback and ship in order to reach its outer limits.

Creating a sequel that not only introduces gamers with meaningful quests, unseen beasts, and relevant characters wasn’t only a huge challenge for CD Projekt RED, but satisfying the player’s need for their choices to have significant consequences left their development team up in arms. “Our team had to make significant design changes and our tech had to be rebuilt,” says Badowski. “But we believe that this will lead to a completely new level of non-linearity and a whole new, richer gaming experience.”

As the last part of the legend of Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt also brings to the table an improved combat system to enhance the free-roaming exploration of its war-torn terrain. New core mechanics will truly enchant players as they tap their instincts, take down foes and earn money for hunting monsters.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released for the PC and “all high-end platforms” sometime in 2014. Fans of the franchise can also purchase The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition for 50% off on GOG.com and Steam  through this Friday. Console gamers will be happy to know that the price for The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition is permanently discounted to $29.99 US for the Xbox 360.

Badowski insists that this conclusion to the adventures of Geralt will uphold the award-winning RPG in high regard in the minds of its legion of fans.

[quote]People may ask if this is really going to be the last Witcher game. Yes, it is. Why? Because we believe that we should end the series on a high note. Technology has progressed to where we can finally tell the story the way we want, with the visuals we want, in the world we imagined. This will be the ultimate fantasy RPG experience, and while we’re hardly out of stories to tell, we believe it’s time for us to look to new worlds and new horizons to keep pushing the boundaries of what we can create.
