Two of the three Assassin’s Creed titles in development have been leaked and will potentially release this Fall. The first of the two, codenamed Unity, will be released for the Xbox One and PS4, and seems to be set in Revolutionary Paris. The screenshots leaked by an anonymous source show Notre Dame, the Seine River and other landmarks.
The second, codenamed Comet, will be released on PS3 and Xbox 360, no word yet on Wii U for either title. There isn’t any word on setting and no hard evidence that if will be an entirely separate title, but it is widely assumed that Comet falls under the latter.
The Assassin’s Creed series has been annualized every Fall since 2009, but to get two potentially individual games from Ubisoft is intriguing as the developer has been blasted by some for milking the franchise. Of course, the flip side of their “milking” is that dividing into multiple teams to create multiple titles in one year provides the opportunity to broaden the franchise.
Previously, Assassin’s Creed producer Jade Raymond has gone on record saying that the next in the franchise would take place in her “favorite historical era”. In addition, it was confirmed the next installment would be of a non-Japanese setting and fake e-mails in Assassin’s Creed IV hinted at multiple potential settings for future games, one being the French Revolution.
Ubisoft has yet to comment on this developing story.
